Michy Batshuayi is reportedly on the brink of joining Dortmund. (Getty Images) Borussia Dortmund have agreed a deal with Chelsea to sign Michy Batshuayi on loan, according to reports in Germany.
The Bundesliga club are in the market for a new striker as they have now decided to sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Arsenal for £60 million, plus bonuses. Dortmund had demanded Olivier Giroud as part of that deal but the French striker has opted to stay in London.
According to Bild, Aubameyang’s transfer is set to be announced on Monday and Dortmund have already secured a replacement in Batshuayi. The report claims that the Belgium international will join the Bundesliga club on loan for the remainder of the season.
Batshuayi scored twice against Newcastle on Sunday. (Reuters) Batshuayi has struggled to secure a regular role at Chelsea since arriving in a £33m deal from Marseille in the summer of 2016.
The 24-year-old scored twice in Chelsea’s 3-0 victory over Newcastle United in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday, but after the match, Antonio Conte admitted that he was unsure if the striker would remain at Stamford Bridge.
‘If the club decides to add another player, then, I don’t know if Michy wants to stay, or wants to go on loan,’ said the Italian. ‘In this case it would be a player decision, not my decision.’
